Front Office Manager Training and Certification Requirements Updated
The previous FOM training and certification has become outdated and is no longer supported by the American Hotel Lodging Educational Institute (AHLEI). BWH Hotels has updated the training requirements for Front Office Manager.
A new FOM program has now been established. Per BWH Hotels' brand rules and regulations, the person directly overseeing the front office’s daily operation must complete the Front Desk Manager Training & Certification in the BWH Hotels Learning Management System (LMS) within 90 days of starting their position.
The new training includes:
- Supervisory Skill Builders
- Hospitality Manager: Hotel Operations Online Course
- Hospitality Manager: Recruiting & Hiring Online Course
Members will find the following benefits through this change:
- This new course is now free on the LMS!
- The new course does not include a certification exam.
Specifically, the Supervisor Skill Builder modules will help prepare leaders to take their Certified Hospitality Supervisor (CHS) Exam through AHLEI. The CHS is optional and is offered at a discounted price of $67.
Additional information:
- If you or your FOM have previously been certified, no action is required. Your previous certification will still apply. Only new FOMs or those who are not currently compliant with the training requirements are required to complete the new training.
- General Managers that are also seen as the FOM may continue to substitute their CHA, CHO, or CLM certification in lieu of this training requirement. Certificates, in these cases, should be submitted here.

Oregon Restaurant & Lodging Association
The Guest Service Gold® Tourism training and Certified Guest Service Professional designation is offered to Oregon’s hospitality community. The special Oregon pricing includes the training course and its certification exam.
Designed collaboratively by AHLEI, Travel Oregon and the Oregon Hospitality Foundation (OHF), this program features real employees and their stories to illustrate seven core principles designed to inspire employees to go for the gold when it comes to providing service above and beyond the call of duty. The Oregon version was designed to appeal and be applicable to a broad cross-section of hospitality-related organizations. The stories featured were filmed in Oregon and use local hospitality employees. Locations represented include a ski area, a winery, an airport, a convention facility, a welcome center, a restaurant and a shuttle service.
